Wedding Reception Photos on Film
If you have spent any time at all on my blog, website, Facebook, or Instagram page you know that I love shooting film! For the most part I’ve shot film in natural light situations and have loved the results. But 99% of weddings don’t have natural light for the entire event. Eventually the sun sets but the party continues. This is where I normally switch over to digital. But I recently shot a few test rolls of 35mm film with my flash on camera. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but (once again) I was pleasantly surprised!
I love to shoot Ilford 3200 B&W for certain things at receptions like the bride and groom’s first dance and the cake cutting… but I often have to use a video light in order to be able to shoot that film stock. Holding up a video light all evening would be (1) exhausting, (2) annoying to the guests, and (3) just impractical. Plus, I don’t want all of the reception shots to be in black and white! So shooting some 35mm film with an on-camera flash (in lieu of digital) seems to be just the ticket! I shot two more test rolls at a wedding recently, this time with one on-camera flash and one off-camera flash! I can’t wait to see the results, and of course share them with you!
