Vintage Cameras | Kristen Lynne Photography | Warrenton Photographer
I love cameras! Surprise! ;) Of course I love cameras, but since this past summer I’ve started to collect vintage cameras to use as props and to decorate my office. I consider myself lucky if I can find a deal on a vintage camera that still works! And that is the story for this one. This is a Yashica Mat-124. It is a 6×6 medium format, twin lens relflex camera that was made sometime around in the late 1960’s. I got a great deal on this camera at a local antique store. It needed some cleaning up (and could use even more), but it is in working condition! The first time I used the camera was this past Christmas. I decided that it would be a great trial run. Unfortunately I forgot my handheld light meter (doh!), so I have not been able to test this camera’s built-in meter. I managed to do ok relying on the built-in meter, but I think they could’ve been a lot better; you can see the Christmas pictures here. I love shooting film with my Contax, but this camera adds a whole new element of FUN! It has a waist level view finder. It took some getting used to, but i loved it! My search for vintage cameras continues, but I just love this one! :)
Isn’t this so neat!?
Matoli - Hey!! I love that you did a blog post on this camera. I inherited mine from my father in law and it is so precious to me to have that part of him. Right now it looks great on my shelf because i do not know the first thing about shooting with it. We should practice together:)
kristenlynnephotography - It is SO much fun to use with the waist level finder! And I LOVE that it puts out the square 6×6 prints. :) We should definitely have some fun with these!!!
