Laney | White Point Garden on The Battery | Charleston Portrait Photographer

I was raised near Charlseton, SC and moved to Virginia about 13 years ago. Our family frequently vacations in South Carolina (pictures from our most recent trip to come soon!). We usually go to Hilton Head Island and stop in Charleston on our way down to visit old friends. Side Note: I highly recommend staying in one of the cute hotels downtown because you will be within walking distance of some really great places!

Anyway… Like I said, I was raised near Charleston in a town called Summerville. It’s not a quaint little town anymore and a LOT has changed since we left. But one thing has remained the same, my friend Delaney. I remember when we first met. My family had just moved into the brand new house at the end of the street in a cul-de-sac. My mom had seen another little girl playing outside that lived up the street. Me being the introvert that I am didn’t want to go down and say hi. Moms always win and we went on short stroll (me on my tricycle) to stop by and say hello.

There she was… Delaney was with her mom in their driveway. She too was on a tricycle, riding close by her mom. Our moms started talking and I think Delaney and I just stared each other down for awhile, circling each other on our radio flyer tricycles. Haha. But once the silence was broken we were instantly inseparable. For about 12 years we were almost always with each other. We became best friends to the point we were pretty much sisters from different mothers. Haha. From the tricycles, to playing with our American Girl Dolls together, to practically yelling as we belted out Spice Girls songs on the swing set, to thinking boys were the GROSSEST thing ever, to getting in water gun fights with the neighborhood boys, to listing to Hanson over and over (and over again), and then wallpapering our rooms with Hanson posters, to talking about our Boy crushes (yes, boys were no longer gross), and so on…

The thing I love about our relationship is that even though we are miles apart, and we don’t always get a chance to catch up on life, every time we see each other it’s like I never left! We seem to just pick up right where we left off, filling in the gaps as we go.

So you can imagine that I’ve been dying to photograph Laney! For a couple years now we’ve tried to do this but our trips to Charleston have never been long enough until this summer! We FINALLY did it. Laney went out and bought the cutest dress from Target, got up at the butt-crack of dawn, and met me down at The Battery… our favorite spot in Charleston. This is what we created!
