Maizey has been apart of our family…
…for almost a month. She is really coming out of her shell, and yes, that does include getting into mischief. She loves to chase the laser pointer around, but so does Tucker. This is where we see a fascinating competition of, “faster vs. bigger.” :) This usually ends in Tucker barking and Maizey running off. We have learned a lot over the past weeks, like the dog will sit and wait for handouts, while the cat will persistently walk onto the plate of food you are eating. The cat also seems to have fewer natural boundaries, i.e. the kitchen counter. After an all out water gun battle, she has learned to jump from the counter when she hears us making tracks for the kitchen. We have learned to wield our water guns everywhere we go in the house. Next time I hear her on the counter I will grab the kitty shampoo, because I swear that cat is only a couple of point-blank shots away from a bath. She knows the call, “here kittykitty” means, “Treats!” and will come running at the call. I’m hoping this ritual will help bring her into the house once we allow her to go outdoors. Tucker and Maizey still seem to be showing each other who rules the roost. I think they forget that WE rule and are quickly reminded of such. My favorite thing is when they play together. Maizey will enticingly lay down in front of Tucker and a sloppy display of mouthing, batting, and catching commences. It always starts out gentle, but after a short period Tucker tries to turn it into a show of his dominance. So needless to say, these spontaneous play sessions have to be carefully supervised and corrected when it turns into something else. This only confirms my judgement that it will be a long time before they can be left alone together. Overall, Lee and I have had many laughs and enjoy having Maizey around.
