Virginia Film Photography | Double Exposures
While in California I decided to play around a bit and experiment with some film. I attempted to do a few double exposures! I should have read up on how to do it since I haven’t tried this technique before, but when you’re having fun you just shoot and see what you get! I wasn’t sure what to expect as I waited for my film scans to come back from Richard Photo Lab but I was pleasantly surprised when I got them. I know they could’ve been a lot better had I read up on double exposures before hand, but I still had fun and like the results!
This is one of my favorites. I was wearing my favorite sandals. Note that this was the FIRST time I wore sandals this year. It was in the high 60’s low 70’s in California. Back home it was in the 30’s and 40’s, so you have no idea how excited I was to be wearing these!!!
Brandilynn on the beach taking some pictures. What else would us photographers be doing?!
I absolutely LOVED these beach pebbles/rocks and so I set this shot up and asked Matoli to pose for me.
We walked daily up and down this long stretch of sidewalk that paralleled the beach. I saw some people with a pup walking towards us and I knew I wanted to snag a shot of him! I also decided that I wanted to add some texture to this shot so I pointed my camera straight down at the same sidewalk so that nothing but the cement and it’s grooves were in the frame.
I don’t know how, but as soon as I decided to play around with double exposures THIS image popped into my head. I knew I wanted a palm branch taking up half the frame with Matoli dead center. It just so happened that she was wearing a really cool tribal print shirt that day. Um, perfect! I got the shot I wanted, but technically I think I could’ve done a better job if I had done some homework first.
I loved this purple flower. I have no idea what kind-of flower it is, but I was drawn to the colors. I wanted to keep the background somewhat simple since the flower is so intricate.
And here are the rest of the double exposures. I was playing around with layering textures and patterns that I found throughout the resort. I also attempted to combine scenes with portraits. All in all it was a lot of fun!!! I love film!
