Our Slightly Off-Beat Valentine’s Day | Kristen Lynne Photography | Warrenton Wedding Photographer

Happy Belated Valentine’s Day!

It has been busy around here and so I am just now getting around to blogging about our Valentine’s Day. We are not the ooey-gooey couple that has a candle-light dinner and gets each other cards for Valentine’s Day, although Lee DID get roses. <3 We are a little more laid back and perhaps a little too practical sometimes. Not that candle-light dinners and cards are bad, it’s just not our style. So rather than celebrating by doing the obligatory traditions that make us both a little nauseated, we decided to do something a little different and off-beat.

We have this quirky tradition that started back when we were dating. Instead of buying each other Valentine’s Day cards we go into a card shop and we get a good laugh reading and sharing all of the funny cards. Then we go our separate ways, pick out a Valentine’s card for each other, exchange the cards, read them, and then return them back to their shelves and walk out having had a good laugh. Our practicality says, “why buy a card when you will just throw it away or shove them in a drawer” but then our softer side thinks, “this is our tradition and we love the memories we have from this silly annual tradition.” <3

Then that brings me to the chocolate! I’m a little picky when it comes to holiday candies. I’m not a fan of  candy to begin with, but the plastic wrapped, heart shaped, box of surprises, can be the worst of all holiday candies. I’m sure you all have taken a bite of a yummy chocolate only to be surprised by the next mouthful of horrific, chocolate mystery stuff. So we usually skip the box of surprises and get something we know we like. But this year we switched it up a little more.

We had lunch at one of our favorite spots in Culpeper, It’s About Thyme. Then we headed across the street to a little gourmet store where they had hand-made belgian chocolates behind their cute little glass counter. We spent about 5 minutes picking out different flavors of chocolates we wanted to try. And they were fantastic!!! We shared each piece critiquing as we ate! I’m happy to report that it was all tasty! :) I loved that this was a different experience for the both of us. We normally do not spend a lot of money on something frivolous like chocolates. But it was something that we did together and were able to enjoy together. Worth every penny!

I hope you all had a WONDERFUL Valentine’s Day spending time with the people that you love the most. It’s not about traditions, flowers, cards, or candy. It’s about having a wonderful day together, no matter what you are doing! :)

xoxo
