A lot of people think that fine art photography means that film is used to capture the photos. But this isn’t the case! Fine art and film compliment each other very well which is why so many film photographers embrace a fine art approach to their work! Let us refer to the beloved wikipedia for the definition, “Fine art photography is photography created in accordance with the vision of the artist as photographer.”

So as a fine art photographer I capture a wedding day the way I interpret it. When I think of weddings I think of very special, emotional, and memorable celebrations of two people committing their lives to one another. And when I photograph weddings I try to capture all of the emotion, love, and happiness of the day in the most beautiful way possible. I use film because I feel that film has an inherently beautiful aesthetic which is soft and romantic. So when I combine all of these ideas and processes together my goal to produce beautiful, romantic photos of the entire wedding day; laughs, happy tears, details, emotions, venue/setting, etc.

The wonderful thing about being a fine art wedding photographer is that my clients trust me to capture their wedding day. Of course I always ask about their “must have” shots and I give them a shot list of important shots to check off, but overall they trust me to capture beautiful images of their wedding days without having to tell me what they want photos of. This is a win-win because they aren’t stressed out on their day asking me things like, “Did you get a pretty picture of the cake?” or, “Please make sure that you get a shot of me getting into my dress from *this* angle,” because they’ve seen my work and they know that I will deliver gorgeous photos. And it is also great for me because during a wedding day, I already know what my clients want/like. So I’m free to capture it for them without being stressed about having a long list of Pinterest shots to check off. I’m able to give them a 110% of my focus and artistic abilities which always ends with gorgeous photos and very happy clients!
