Rudy & Megan | National Cathedral Wedding | Northern Virginia Wedding Photographer

Where do I even begin? Maybe I’ll start by talking about how we first met! I was at a styled photo shoot that was organized by a photography friend of mine. It was a wedding themed styled shoot and there were three couples modeling as bride & groom couples. The idea is that you practice shooting with all three couples, but I kept gravitating to Rudy and Megan. There was just something about them, in their personalities, that made me want to keep working with them. Months later they contacted me because they were searching for a photographer for their wedding! I’m telling you now, I could NOT contain my excitement! This was so unexpected and so wonderful. I. Could. Not. Wait. to work with them again!

Fast forward to last month… By this time I feel like Rudy and Megan are more like friends than clients. (I mean, I met her mom (and love her to pieces) at their consult! How many people introduce you to their mom on your second “date?” Haha.) I was ecstatic for these two. They are such sweet and humble people and it is very apparent how much they love each other. Just hang out with them for five minutes and you will KNOW they were meant for each other.
So you can image how excited I’d be for this wedding. Let me do the math for you:
Amazing couple + Great style + Beautiful and romantic venue = Photographer’s dream

Rudy & Megan’s day could not have been better! I started out taking pictures of Megan’s details and of her getting into her dress. It was special to be able to do this in the house that she grew up in! Then came the ceremony. Oh. My. Goodness. I always get a little emotional during the vows. But this wedding brought on a first for me… I got goosebumps as Megan walked down the aisle with her father! I don’t know if it was Megan’s expression, or the beauty of the Cathedral, or the fact that I felt like I’ve really gotten to know Megan and Rudy… Maybe it was all of it combined into one split second. But that was SUCH a special moment.

After the ceremony we went into the gardens for their portraits. The sun was just starting to set which was perfect light for their portraits. In the evening light (and partially due to the fact that I was shooting film) the Cathedral took on a light pink hue in the background of their photos! I mean, can it BE anymore romantic than that?! Megan and Rudy were to patient and willing to do what we asked of them for their portraits. They even hauled it all the way across the lawn of the Cathedral so we could capture a few more portraits before heading off to the reception.

Ah, the reception! Beautiful tea light candles were floating in the air above the dining tables. It was a gorgeous sight and created a warm and romantic ambiance. The plated dinners looked more like works of art than food. After dinner the party started to pick up as people took the dance floor. This was an AWESOME crowd and the DJ kept the fun going. We also set up the “petite studio” for their guests. Basically this is a pretty gold sequin backdrop that guests can have their photos made in front of! It’s like a photo booth, but not as cheesy. ;) The guests LOVED it! The whole reception was a great time. Rudy and Megan’s guests had SO much fun, and we did too!
